HyperTension
HyperTension is an arcade shooter inspired by Space Invaders, both in its gameplay and its art style.
The game-loop is kinda like a Tug-of-War between the aliens and the player. There's two phases in the game:
The attack phase, which is played like Space Invaders, with the addition of new enemy types and power-ups.
And the defense phase, which starts once the "Tension" gauge reaches its maximum. In the defense phase, the player's ship orbits the Earth to defend it against the alien invasion. Generally, you should stay away from entering the defense phase as much as possible, given that once the Earth's health reaches zero, you lose the game regardless of how many extra lifes you have.
There's some info in the game's menu about the enemies' stats and how to manage the tension gauge, but a brief summary of it would be:
- The more aliens on screen, the faster the tension gauge rises.
- Getting hit also rises the tension gauge.
- Some enemies raise tension faster than others.
- Killing aliens lowers tension by a tiny bit, there are some aliens that lower it more than others.
The soundtrack for the game (except the main menu song) wasn't made by us:
Attack phase song: Blizzard ~ 8-bit Cover (Dragon Ball Super: Broly) by krakelak
Defense phase song: Perfect Cell Theme Remix by ALX Productions
(curlyhairdude535 uploaded the song first, but apparently the remix was originally created by ALX Productions, as said in the song's description)
We used a very limited visual-scripting-like tool for this project, so bugs are expected. (University assignment requirements sorry :>)
